In this presentation from the Association for Clinical Genomic Science (ACGS) 2025 conference, OGT expert Chris Harrigan provides insight into the latest advancements in cytogenetic analysis from our partner* Applied Spectral Imaging (ASI), a global leader in advanced biomedical imaging.

ASI have developed a number of cutting-edge technologies — including scanners and software analysis solutions for fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) and karyotyping — primarily designed to reduce turnaround time, but also to address the challenge labs face with ever increasing sample volumes.

During the presentation Chris details how HiBand — ASI’s digital chromosome analysis and karyotyping system — can streamline a lab’s cytogenetic workflows and deliver improved efficiency with AI-based karyotyping, including:

  • AI-powered chromosome segmentation achieving 94% accuracy in blood samples and 90% accuracy in bone marrow
  • AI-powered chromosome classification† achieving 99% accuracy in blood samples and 96% accuracy in bone marrow
  • Average time required to correct one metaphase (segmentation and placement) reduced by around 60% for peripheral blood and 50% for bone marrow
